In the context of accelerating the Actions for the Integrated Solid Waste Management in the Attica Region, on Wednesday, March 31, the Attica Regional Governor G. Patoulis met the Minister of Environment and Energy K. Skrekas, with the General Secretary of Coordination Management Management Authority of the Region D. Drossi, and the Technical Consultants in Waste Management of EDSNA, V. Michalopoulos and D. Bourkas.
The Regional Governor presented the revised Regional Waste Management Plan of the Attica Region and was referred to the Prevention, Sorting and Awareness Actions that have been implemented or launched. He also discussed the matter of financing the major infrastructure projects, which will be required.
Center of the discussion were the Parks of Circular Economy that include the Waste Treatment Units (WTP) for the treatment of mixed waste as well as the Network of Bio Waste Treatment Units for the Decentralization of waste management in the Region.
G. Patoulis thoroughly developed the actions implemented by the Attica Region to support the Municipalities in the collection of biowaste with the delivery of the necessary equipment, in the network of small recycling corners to increase recycling in Attica, in the creation of the recycling observatory and in the sensitization citizens in matters of prevention and recycling.
Regarding the large waste management infrastructure, the progress of the maturation of the projects was analyzed and a detailed work schedule was presented so that Attica in 2025 will bury less than 10% of the produced quantity. In addition, reference was made to the issues of financing the actions, where it was pointed out that the main financial tool is the current (2014-2020) and the new (2021 -2027) ESPA.
